The Sibelius Museum’s permanent exhibition of musical instruments portrays the different aspects of Finnish music culture. The history of classical music is approached from a local perspective. Turku was the capital of Finnish musical life from the middle ages all the way until the 1800’s. This is visible in the Sibelius Museum’s own history and collections. The key features and historical development of various instrument families are visible in our instrument showcases. Folk music and the history of sound recording and reproduction have their own places in the permanent exhibition as well.
