Ballet

Ballet is an exhibition by Turku-based Teija Huusko, dancing instructor, and Jaska Poikonen, photographer, consisting of gripping photographs engendered by the aesthetics of ballet. At the centre of these “choreographies of the moment” is the physical experience of ballet, and the emotions grounded in it. The atmosphere in the pieces is born out of the blending of choreography and photography, backdropped by thought-provoking milieus. Excerpts from Finnish poet’s Raisa Jäntti’s anthology Grand plié add a finishing touch to this exhibition, whose singular focus on ballet photography is quite rare in the Finnish art scene. Ballet is the artists’ first collaborative exhibition.
