Architecture tour of the museum building

A horrible cube or a wonderful concrete building? During the tour we will explore the architecture of the museum building both from the outside and the inside. How does the brutalist architecture of the 1960’s fit in the surroundings that is dominated by buildings from 19th century and an oak that was planted in the 17th century? What makes the museum building special and why is it a protected building?

Sibelius – SINFONIA VI

Sunday 19th of February 2023 marked the 100th anniversary of the premiere of Jean Sibelius’ 6th Symphony. The original hand-written score was graciously donated to Sibelius Museum by the composer himself in the Autumn of 1955 after Otto Anderson visited him at Ainola. To commemorate its centenary the renewed Sibelius Exhibition takes a look at Sibelius’ personal history and Finnish history from the point of view of Sibelius. The tour can be concluded with listening to recordings of Sibelius’ works through the loudspeakers in the concert hall.
