Evening of Iranian Music
The story of AavaMusic began in 2020, when a group of friends from Iran started practicing together playing the tunes of their home regions on traditional instruments. Of course, they had already been singing familiar songs in informal gatherings. Since Shadi Fathi, an Iranian musician living in France, is mentoring the group, it has been able to develop and introduce new songs to its repertoire. Today AavaMusic has about twenty players and singers. In autumn 2021, the Cultural Association Aava ry was established to support the music group’s activities.
At the May concert on Saturday, May 20 at 7 p.m. you’ll hear the results of the fifth intensive workshop week. It is also the band’s third concert at the Sibelius Museum. The program includes both instrumental pieces and songs performed in Persian, Kurdish and Azeri languages. Among the instruments you can hear not only Iranian setar, tar, santur, tombak and daf but also for many Finns more familiar violin and clarinet. The concert will be conducted by Shadi Fathi herself.
