Upcoming: Professional Composer
The photographer Maarit Kytöharju’s exhibition Professional Composer portrays Finnish composers in their work, leisure time and as portraits over three decades. Kytöharju has been documenting the Finnsh art and music scene since the early 1990s, and her camera has captured a large proportion of Finland’s composers over the years – both seasoned veterans and newcomers.
The exhibition gives the public a rare insight into the world of the classical music composer: what does composing look like, from the 90s to this day? The photos are complemented by the composers’ own thoughts and writings about their oeuvres and their work. Taken as a whole, the exhibition provides a diverse picture of the profession, where creative work is both deeply personal and socially relevant.
In honour of the 80th anniversary of the non-profit society of Finnish composers, the exhibition celebrates the work of composers and puts them into the spotlight.
The exhibition will be on display at the Sibelius Museum from 18 June to 10 August 2025, and in the autumn also at the Musiikkitalo in Helsinki from 15 October to 14 November 2025.
