Viola Nyyssönen is a mezzosoprano from Turku. She has studied at Turku Conservatory under Pia Pajala.
Pianist Riika Heikkilä is studying at Turku Arts Academy under Eveliina Kytömäki. She began her studies under Hannu Hirvelä at Oulu Conservatory, from where she graduated a musician in the spring 2022.
Nyyssönen and Heikkilä have worked together with lieds since the beginning of 2024. The duo aims for the autumn’s Helsinki Lied 2024 -competition.
At their Sommar Sibelius concert, they perform nature themed songs and piano pieces by Jean Sibelius, such as Soluppgång, Blommans öde and Granen. Included in the programme is also the song Hymyi Hypnos by Sibelius’ contemporary Leevi Madetoja.
During the 2024 summer our museum once again comes to life on weekends with live music in the Sibelius Hall. With this, we wish to provide a possibility to experience our exhibitions a bit differently. Naturally, you may also have a seat in the concert hall and just enjoy the music.
Sommar Sibelius is a collaborative project between the Sibelius Museum and the Turku Arts Academy where music students perform music by Jean Sibelius during short pop-up concerts.
The Sommar Sibelius concerts are included in the admission price.
