25th anniversary of Selloduo Varonen

Selloduo Anna-Maaria & Olli Varonen have been performing since 2000. Their first concert performance was in Budapest, at an event organised by the Embassy of Finland. Since then, the duo has given hundreds of concerts in Hungary, often in Hungary and regularly in Sweden. The duo has also performed in Estonia, Czechia, Spain and Senegal. In addition to Finnish and Swedish public radios, the duo’s performances have been heard on two television broadcasts of the Hungarian cultural channel Kaniza. The duo has released four albums and recorded a joint album with gospel legend Jaakko Löyty. In addition, the cello duo played a key role in the design and implementation of the first national cello competition for school-age children (Salo 2019).

The concert is entitled “Around the world in 60 minutes” and has recently become one of the audience’s favourites. The tunes will take us around the globe in a very real sense: we will start from continental Europe, visit the British Isles, move on to the USA, from there to Hawaii, India and the Mediterranean. And, finally, to Finland.

Among the composers featured are J.S. Bach, F. Schubert, L. Boccherini, B. Britten, Leilehua Lanzilotti and Erkki Melartin. Works based on folk songs will also be featured.
