The Collection of Musical Instruments
Our collection spans approx. 2000 musical instruments from all around the world. Many of the instruments in our collection have a clear connection to Finnish music culture, Finnish instrument makers, and the city of Turku. The oldest of our instruments are from the 1700’s. The museum has a wide variety of kanteles and keyboard instruments, including many Finnish square pianos. The collection also includes folk music instruments from around the world, for example many instruments from Asia and Africa. We also have sound recording and reproduction equipment, toy instruments, and various experimental instruments in our collection.
