Katharina Bierweiler and Jyri Mishukov have collaborated as a lied duo for several years. Together they have participated in masterclasses led by, among others, Brigitte Fassbaender, Wolfgang Holzmair and Susan Manoff. The duo has received a scholarship from the Riemschneider Foundation, won second prize at the Helmut Deutsch Lied Competition in Vienna, and was selected for the Barcelona Franz Schubert Society’s Lied the Future 2026 programme. They perform regularly across Europe. Bierweiler studies opera singing at the Karlsruhe University of Music and has achieved success in several international competitions, while Mishukov graduated from the same institution’s specialised lied programme and has further developed his artistry through masterclasses with a number of distinguished lied performers. They are united by a particular passion for the lied repertoire and a long-term commitment to exploring the dialogue between voice and piano.
Katharina Bierweiler (b. 2004) is a German mezzo-soprano. She is a recipient of scholarships from the Deutschlandstipendium programme (2024–2026), the Riemschneider Foundation, and the Franz Schubert Society of Barcelona’s Lied the Future 2026 programme.
Bierweiler began her pre-college studies at the Karlsruhe University of Music at the age of 17 and has been pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in Opera Singing since 2023 under Professors Christiane Libor and Clemens Klemm. She has received numerous awards, including Second Prize and the Ehrbar Prize at the Helmut Deutsch Lied Competition in Vienna in 2025, First Prize at the Junior Charles Wood Song Competition in 2025, and the Fritz Wunderlich Recognition Award in 2025.
Her stage appearances have taken her to venues including Théâtre Royal de la Monnaie / De Munt in Brussels, where she performed the role of Flora in The Turn of the Screw, and the Theatre Freiburg. During the 2025/26 season she sang the role of Soeur Mathilde in Dialogues des Carmélites at the Badisches Staatstheater Karlsruhe.
Lied performance forms a central part of her artistic work, which she has further developed through numerous masterclasses with renowned artists.
Jyri Mishukov is one of Finland’s most sought-after collaborative pianists specialising in lied. He began studying piano at the Joensuu Conservatory and continued at the Sibelius Academy under Juhani Lagerspetz. He also studied in Berlin at the Hochschule für Musik “Hanns Eisler” with Professors Birgitta Wollenweber and Konrad Maria Engel. Mishukov graduated with distinction from the Karlsruhe University of Music, where he studied lied performance with Professors Hartmut Höll and Mitsuko Shirai.
He has further enriched his artistic development through masterclasses with distinguished musicians including Brigitte Fassbaender, Anne Sofie von Otter, Christoph Prégardien, Anne Le Bozec, Bernarda Fink, Richard Stokes and Wolfgang Holzmair. In May 2024 he was selected for the Young Artists Programme of the Zeist International Lied Festival. In 2025 he received the Second Pianist Prize at the Helmut Deutsch Lied Competition in Vienna.
In 2026 Mishukov was selected for the Franz Schubert Society of Barcelona’s Lied the Future programme, which is intended for outstanding young lied duos.
His artistic work has been supported by several major scholarships and grants, including those from the Pro Musica Foundation, the Sibelius Academy, the Finnish Cultural Foundation, the Martin Wegelius Foundation, and the Jenny and Antti Wihuri Foundation. He has also been a scholarship recipient of Yehudi Menuhin Live Music Now and the Brahms-Gesellschaft Baden-Baden.
