The Sibelius Piano Quintet returns to Turku, more intact than ever. Jean Sibelius composed his only piano quintet, which is full of ideas and considered autobiographical, in Berlin in 1890, on the eve of his professional career, and the work was first performed in Finland in Turku on 11 October 1890. In this concert, the work is performed in the new critical edition of the Jean Sibelius Works series. The unique set includes a sixth movement: a scherzo, which the composer abandoned in the course of his compositional work. To begin the evening, researcher Anna Pulkkis will tell us more about the story of the work, in which the treasures of the Sibelius Museum’s manuscript collection play an important role.
In collaboration with the Turku Philharmonic Orchestra and Jean Sibelius Works
