Thomas Ignatius

Thomas Ignatius is Tuomas Palonen‘s medieval alter-ego, performing digital medieval music on synthesizer and electric guitar. The retro-futuristic hybrid has been well received both at home and abroad. Ignatius’ music video caused a stir on the Levyrat programme and music influencers from Oskari Onninen to Njassa have praised the album. The respected British magazine The Wire also joined the praise: “Palonen’s playful, approximate approach to recreating historical forms has resulted in a suite of music that feels authentically refreshing”. Several medieval scholars have also praised Ignatius’ songs as authentic, despite the modern instrumentation and the fact that they were composed by Palonen himself. Palonen’s previous solo album, released under his own name, was nominated for the Teosto Prize. The concert is part of the Medieval Turku events.
