The chamber music concert is built around Wynton Marsalis’s seven-part string quartet At the Octoroon Balls, which tells the story of New Orleans dances. The concerto emerges from silence and darkness, growing in intensity as the work progresses. Between the quartet movements, four small-scale works will be performed, each of which is completely unique. The works performed during the evening have been influenced by the folk music of different countries and peoples.
