WeW! x Tampering: Välillä – new music for string instruments

The contemporary music associations What ever Works! ry from Turku and Tampering ry from Tampere join forces and create a shared concert project WeW! x Tampering: Välillä – new music for string instruments. The concerts will be held on Tuesday September 15th at Sibelius Museum in Turku, and on Wednesday September 23rd at Culture House Laikku in Tampere. Both concerts start at 18:00.
In times of polarization, the importance of cooperation and shared interests is crucial. These concerts build a new kind of collaboration between the two associations and offer the listeners some fresh, local musical experiences. The name of the project, Välillä (‘In between’ or ‘Sometimes’) bridges the gap between the two towns and highlights the importance of contemporary music as a thrilling meeting point of different genres and influences. Many of the pieces reflect an individual’s experience in the surrounding time and society.
Both concerts have the same programme that consists of works equally from both associations’ members. Altogether four works for string quartet and two works for solo cello will be heard.
On behalf of WeW! we shall hear Just before the End by Asta Hyvärinen in a world premiere in Turku, Lauri Mäntysaari’s Kimara, a mandatory piece in Turku National Cello Competition 2026, and Salva by Leevi Räsänen.
On behalf of Tampering, Soar by Niki Main, Hetkien välissä (world premiere) by Eelis Uusivirta and The Dark Train for solo cello by Adam Vilagi, were selected in the programme.
As musicians we will hear cellist Teemu Mastovaara, violinists Katriina Rainio and Aino Torii, and violist Matilda Berghäll. The concerts last about one hour with no intermission.
In Turku at Sibelius Museum at 18:00 on September 15th and in Tampere at Culture House Laikku at 18:00 on September 23rd.
The tickets for the concert in Turku are available online in advance and at the door an hour before the concert for 15/10 euros. The concert in Tampere has free entry, and the programme book can be purchased for 15/10 euros at the door.
