Duo Arkipelag is flute-guitar duo from southwestern Finland, which, with its composition of Visa Turunen (flute) and Tuomo Tirronen (guitar), has been performing concerts since 2004, performing classic works of their instruments as well as new and innovative contemporary music of their time. Duo Arkipelag’s eponymous first recording was released in spring 2018. The album’s program consists of Finnish works.
Visa Turunen, a flute teacher at the Turku Region Music Institute and a musician in the salon orchestra Volante, has made a name for himself both in the Navy Band and as a performer in numerous different chamber music productions. Since autumn 2018, Visa Turunen has worked as a freelance artist and musician.
Guitaris Tuomo Tirronen, who graduated as Musiker MH in 2004 from Lucerne, Switzerland, is a guitar teacher at Musikinstitutet Arkipelag, Turku YMCA and Vanda Musikinstitutet. Tirronen has given concerts e.g. in Germany, Italy, Sweden and Switzerland and his first album “Anfangs” was released in the United States in 2007. The second album of Spanish guitar music “La Guitarra” was released in autumn 2009. Tuomo Tirronen specialises in 19th century guitar music.
