Janne Lehtinen plays guitar music from Argentina

In this concert, Janne Lehtinen plays the music of his three Argentinian friends, Juan Falú, Jorge Cardoso and Gustavo Nasuti. Their music is deeply rooted in Argentine folk tradition and folklore. They have built their own personal style from this tradition, turned it into universal music, for concert use. Lehtinen got music from them for this program and recording, which he released on his album Tierra lejana.

Argentine music is much more than just Buenos Aires tango. Folk music is as wide as the country and varies from the mournful milonga of the pampas to the wild chacarera of the Andes and the romantic Guarania of the northern rain forests. The guitar is an important instrument in Argentina and the country is full of talented players. You can see and hear this, for example, at the big Guitarras del Mundo festival organized there every year. The festival is organized around the country in more than 80 different locations and there you can hear local musicians alongside international visitors.

Janne Lehtinen began his music studies at the Tampere Music College in 1972 and continued them at the Sibelius Academy for a diploma in 1983 under the direction of Kari Äikäs. After that, he studied in master classes with John Williams, Jorge Cardoso and Jorge Morel. His debut concert in the concert hall of the Sibelius Academy was in 1986. Janne Lehtinen has performed in Finland and abroad both as a soloist and as a chamber musician. He worked for a long time at the Hyvinkää Music College as a guitar teacher. Janne Lehtinen has produced CDs of his concert programs on his Kistu record label. Records are available at concerts and at the Fuga record store. This way, the audience has the opportunity to return to the atmosphere of the concert at home. South American and especially Argentinian music has often been included in Lehtinen’s programs.
