Turku Old Town is worth celebrating! Last year, the area’s operators were thrilled to be involved and offered city residents interesting events and some surprising encounters. The museums and galleries kept their doors open, the Old Great Square was filled with market atmosphere, and people got to experience various performances on the Kirkkopuisto Terrace. Celebrations continued all day long at the Art House Turku, and folk music was playing at the Sibelius Museum. And much more.

Welcome to Astra – The Future Meeting Place at Åbo Akademi University Campus in Turku
Discover Astra, the new meeting place at Åbo Akademi University campus, designed to be a central hub for students, staff, and anyone seeking inspiration from academic, artistic, and historical surroundings. With its unique combination of science, art, events, and knowledge tourism, Astra is more than just a building – it is a driver of innovation and cultural exchange.
The building is being constructed by the Åbo Akademi University Foundation, on the site where parts of Gadolinia previously stood on the campus.
Join our introductory event where Ann Charlott Hästö, head of campus development at Åbo Akademi, and Jouni Lehtonen from Sigge Architects, delve deep into the process behind Astra. They will share their vision of how Astra as a building and meeting place can shape the future of Åbo Akademi University and its collaboration with society. The event will be opened by the Åbo Akademi University Foundation, represented by Museum Manager Teemu Kirjonen.
