Turku Old Town celebration with Turku Folks! Orchestra
The Old Town celebrates on Turku Cathedral’s birthday on 17 June 2023. Turku Cathedral, or ‘Dom’, will be a magnificent 723 years old this June!
As part of the celebrations, you are welcome to listen to the Turku Folks! Orchestra, practising in public in the courtyard of the Sibelius Museum (or in the hall if it’s raining).
The members of the Turku Folks! Orchestra take music making seriously, but with joy and humor! The orchestra’s varied and newly arranged repertoire consists of dance music from Finland, from polkas to quadrills and from folk songs to tangos. The orchestra is open to all instruments and players, and everyone can participate as they wish and according to the time they have – the most important thing is that the music rings and the song crackles. The open community was founded in 2017 and has already registered more than 200 musicians, from beginners to professionals, who are interested in playing and singing together.
Free of charge!
Many other operators in the Old Town area will also organize activities for all ages throughout the day. Check the programme from here: https://www.turku.fi/en/old-town-celebration
